Ssshh! There’s something very special going on at Elite Model Look Sweden. Back at the start of autumn, their Stockholm HQ teamed up with television station Kanal 5 and the search for the Swedish finalist has been commanding viewers’ attention ever since (check out last night’s episode here.) The programme, Modelljakten, will be revealing the Swedish finalist in the first week of December, but in the meantime you can see images of the finalists above.
Meanwhile, in the real world, one of them was selected as the winner during the Elite Model Look Sweden contest in Bern on October 8. The very cool event was hosted by the beautiful Kenza in tandem with fellow fashion blogger (turned popstar) Andreas Wijk. Both were flying the flag for Swedish labels, with Kenza in a hot pink dress by Malina and Andreas in Tiger of Sweden. The duo’s credentials were certainly impeccable, but the jury was even more formidable, including the mighty trio of Elite Model Look International President Michaela Goddard-Quesada (don’t miss her guest post tomorrow), Elite Models Stockholm Director Fredo Kazemi and Mimmi Olsson, founder of top Stockholm agency Model Link. Whoever they picked, you can be sure their judgement was rock-solid.
There may not be a TV programme, but the Elite Model Look Netherlands final, held on October 14 at Amsterdam’s Stadsschouwburg, was full of familiar faces. Guests included Grazia’s Editor-in-Chief Hilmar Mulder and celebrity stylist Danie Bles alongside last year’s winner Lucette van Beek. The show featured five catwalk rounds, with lingerie by Sam Friday Intimates, streetwear, designer wear by Tony Cohen and the oh-so-fashiony, 1970s-inspired vintage couture round courtesy of Frans Molenaar. (The ‘70s theme continued at NL confidential’s glam afterparty.) Then the verdict was in: the winner was 14 year-old Lieke van Houten, who beat more than 1400 Dutch girls to Holland’s top spot. We lieke!
Just under a week ago, the Elite Model Look Romania final took Bucharest by storm. It may be best known for vampires, but hey, what could be more in fashion right now? Here, 25 young women aged between 14 and 22 were selected after regional casting in association with Schwarzkopf. Since October 15, in keeping with Elite Model Look practice, they had been learning all about what it takes to be a super during model 'bootcamp'. Held inside the Hotel Caro, here they enjoyed make-up sessions, hair styling, fittings and rehearsals for the showdown. At the end of this intensive preparation, only one could remain – and the judges all agreed that Vanessa Catanas had the talent and attitude to make it big.
